This blog will give you some insight into what is Tarot Card Reading in general, and what does it hold for us now. Let's start with explaining the concept of what Tarot Card reading is all about.

Tarot cards are seventy-eight in total, consisting of fifty-six Minor Arcana and twenty-two Major Arcana.

The distinction between the two is found in the different content of each, with one exception: there are four court cards in each suit of the Minor Arcana in addition to ten pips or numbered cards. The court cards represent people, just as in bridge or poker; they depict a king, queen, knight, and page/knave.

The Minor Arcana follow closely suit systems similar to those found in playing cards today.

They consist of Cups (often called Hearts), Pentacles (often called Coins), Swords, and Staves (often called Clubs or Wands). The Cups are associated with emotions, The Pentacles are related to prosperity and success, Swords stand for intellectual battles while The Staves represent the element of action.

Tarot cards basically have two different types of cards- Major Arcana which contains 22 cards numbered 1 to 21 and Minor Arcana which has 56 cards divided into 4 categories, each category denoting a different aspect concerning life and its problems.

For instance:

The Suit of Cups:

  • Ace (or ones) represents an opportunity that will most likely develop in a positive way.
  • Two is about accepting changes even if it seems difficult.
  • Three describes difficulties but these might be overcome.
  • Four shows you what is affecting your mind or emotions at present.
  • Five is a warning not to overreact to sensitive issues.
  • Six allows you to find resolutions within yourself.
  • Seven presents obstacles or hindrances that may lead to your undoing.
  • Eight reveals an urgent matter that must be settled soon.
  • Nine means satisfaction with your current position in life will be short-lived if matters are not resolved satisfactorily.
  • Ten shows the need for understanding what has been troubling you lately, problems are coming to an end, and
  • Eleven encourages optimism about future prospects.

The Suit of Swords:

  • Ace represents some exciting news about plans underway.
  • Two warns against communicating too much information just yet as it might backfire on you.
  • Three indicates that decisions made now might turn out less than promising later on.
  • Four encourages that everything will resolve itself satisfactorily in the end.
  • Five tells you that someone is not being honest with you.
  • Six warns against depending on other people to get things done.
  • Seven reinforces the need to look after your own interests as others may not have your best interests at heart.
  • Eight means it might be better for you if plans were put on hold until a future date when circumstances are more favorable.
  • Nine indicates that a new project or venture will succeed if undertaken now while.
  • Ten invites a fresh approach that will yield better results later on.
